Frequently Asked Questions
Which package is right for me?
It depends on where you are in your training. If you are currently undertaking pilot training and have some exposure to radio communications during your flight lessons, our FRTOL Fastrack package lets you study at your own pace online before sitting the CAA practical. If you have already passed the CAA written communications paper, our ‘Half Way There’ package picks up from that point. If you have completed all your study and just need the exam, you can book a test slot directly through our live booking system.
What is the FRTOL Fastrack?
Our most popular FRTOL training and testing solution. It includes lifetime access to our SRG1171 compliant CBT platform, an online gap analysis practice test with an examiner, and an in-person CAA practical test including ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 6 Assessment. You can complete it in your own time alongside your flight training.
I’ve already passed the CAA written communications paper. What next?
Our ‘Half Way There’ package is designed for you. It includes tuition, a radiotelephony knowledge quiz, practice practical examination, CAA practical examination, and ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 6 Assessment.
Can I just book the exam?
Yes. The majority of candidates prefer to take a practice practical exam first—this drastically increases your chances of passing first time. However, if you just need the CAA test, we can arrange that. Please ensure you have met the pre-test requirements set out in CAP2325 before booking.
Do you offer instructor standardisation courses?
Yes. We deliver standardisation courses aimed at Approved Training Organisations who want their instructors teaching students correct and compliant radiotelephony phraseology. Contact us to discuss your organisation’s requirements.
I’m new to aviation. Where do I start?
Our Radiotelephony Induction Evening is designed for people who are new to general aviation and confused by radio communication. It covers the basic RT principles, terminology, and the scenarios you may face in the early stages of your pilot training—plus an insight into what is expected as you progress. A must for all beginners.
